Every pair of Sylven New York shoes is shipped with recycled paper, recycled cotton dust bags, and recycled and recyclable shoe boxes. They also employ a plastic-free packaging mandate with all of their factory partners

All Sylven New York are 100% made in Italy: Everything from where their shoe forms get made, to their tanneries, to where they source their apple waste for their Apple Skin alternative to leather comes from Italy

Casey Dworkin is the founder of the brand. Funny enough she was born on Earth Day, and has been dedicated to sustainable practices from a young age as a result. Prior to launching her own line, Dworkin spent her professional career working within small footwear and fashion companies. When she decided to launch a company of her own, she felt compelled to base her brand equally on craftsmanship, design, and mission – finally getting the opportunity to combine her affinities for both fashion and sustainability

﻿Apple Leather is a bio-based leather alternative made using organic apple waste originating in Tyrol, a town nestled at the base of the Italian Alps. Tyrol is the largest supplier of organic apples in Europe and every year is faced with a significant amount of waste. The cores and skins of the apple waste are taken and transformed into a pulp, which is then bound to a fabric for structure. The result is a ‘leather’ imitative material that structurally holds many of the same properties as a traditional animal leather while remaining completely animal-free.

Apple skin is a leather substitute and, as it sounds, is made with scraps left over from the food industry, composed of a minimum of 50% apple skin and core waste. 

With this innovative fabric, you can give food scraps a new life, and in doing so you save resources and energy. 
Apple Skin uses vegan tanning processes, where few toxic chemicals are used. 

In the composition, there is also PU, a plastic material. Wait, isn’t plastic a bad thing? Currently, it is necessary to make apple skin leather a durable material that will last for ages even with frequent usage. 

When you choose substitutes like apple skin, you are totally taking part in the advancement of technologies for bio-based materials like it.

This product contains apple skin leather, a material made with a natural leather alternative by apple skin and core waste. Apart from being extremely environmentally friendly, it is breathable thanks to it's organic composition, and water resistant. 

You have 14 days to inform Immaculate Vegan of your desire to return an item, and then another 14 days to send back the item. If the supplier offers free returns, a Free Post sticker or code will be included in the packaging. If the supplier does not offer free returns, you are responsible for packaging up the item and posting it back at your own cost

Featuring their signature geometric detailing, the Mel is their take on a classic trainer reimagined with innovative plant-based and vegan materials from top to bottom.Mel's outsole is made from a revolutionary sustainable material called lactae hevea - a highly renewable natural rubber derived from the sap of the hevea tree. The Mel also uses a coconut husk insole that not only is naturally produced, but is also naturally antimicrobial, and incredibly comfortable. Mel's shoelaces are recycled cotton and topped off with metal aglets to avoid virgin plastic entirely. And of course, the Mel features Sylven's signature luxe Italian apple leather.

For example, imagine a factory that cuts patterns for clothing out of big sheets of fabric and has all the in-between pieces to discard. The scraps of such cut and sew facilities are post-industrial cotton “waste” that have the capacity to be recycled. Post consumer waste is material discarded after someone uses it. 

Recycled cotton’s production process saves resources and energy to create, because their raw material already exists! It gives discarded cotton a purpose, keeping material in the loop for longer, contributing to circular fashion.

Recycled cotton comes from the soft and fluffy part of the cotton plant. It is a lightweight material that is durable, making it a wardrobe staple, and can last in your closet for years to come.

Recycled cotton can be recycled again and again, creating a new recycled cotton clothing. It is also a bio-based material, making it biodegradable, so it can fully decompose when it has grown too old to be recycled again.

Sylven's vegan nappa leather is made without any virgin plastics and using a water-based manufacturing process. Contrary to its name, this water-based process still uses 95% less water than the standard chemical process. Energy consumption is also reduced in this process by roughly 55%.

Vegan leather does not make use of animal sources for any of their materials required to produce their fabric. 

Vegan leather saves CO2 emissions, energy, and resources because it uses plant or chemical based materials. It also ensures no animals are harmed in the process of production.

Vegan leather options vary, as there are increasingly more sustainable leather alternatives entering the market. Some are based on natural materials such as fruit, that are completely biodegradable. Others are made of synthetic materials that are often recyclable and/or made of recyclable materials.

The custom designed zipper pull, also shaped like a diamond, is entirely handcrafted by fair trade artisans in Kenya. Proceeds from the sales of this boot and of all of Sylven styles made with their Kenyan hardware go directly towards new initiative The Better Scholarship - a training and education program for low income students in Kenya.
